Michael LaMonica is the head of the firm’s legal support and appellate department. Michael graduated in the top 5% of his class from Quinnipiac University School of Law where he served on the editorial board of the Quinnipiac Probate Law Journal and was inducted into the Burns Inn of the Phi Delta Phi legal honor society. During his time in law school, Michael interned in the chambers of U.S. District Court Judge Peter C. Dorsey and in the counsel’s office of Governor M. Jodi Rell. He also provided legal services to underprivileged clients at the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization at Yale Law School. After graduation, Michael proudly served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Connecticut where he represented the state in litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. He has extensive experience in brief writing and oral argument.

In pursuit of a lifelong goal, Michael obtained his Ph.D. in legal history from McGill University, where he taught prior to joining the Alvarez Law Firm in 2024. Michael has published works in law and history for general and specialist audiences alike, including The First Amendment for Beginners (2018). He is passionate about combining his love of research, writing, and argumentation to help clients achieve success in the courtroom.

Michael is fluent in French and has published professional translations. Outside the practice of law, Michael enjoys cooking, tabletop gaming, and skiing with his family.
